sit, let me tell you a tale
Oct 15 2009
Tonight I'm cheating. I had a post all planned out but have had to hold off on it for a few days, so I give you: The List!!!
Rules:
1) Copy this list into your blog or social networking site profile, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out or italicize any items that you would never consider eating.
4) Optional extra: Post a comment on this post linking to your results.
1. Molasses - I grew up on a farm and we had a bucket of it that we used to feed to the horses. Sometimes the smell of it as we mixed it through the chaff was just too tempting and we would stick our fingers in for a sticky sample.
2. Cactus/Nopales - Sounds prickly :)
3. Scrambled Tofu - Can I half bold it? Am yet to try a version I want to remember :(
4. Grilled Portobella Caps - Our house is a mushroom free zone. Josh hates them and I don't like them enough to bother cooking them just for me.
5. Fresh Ground Horseradish
6. Sweet Potato Biscuits - As in scones or biscuits? Northern hemispherians call things strange names, I get confused.
7. Arepas - No idea. Possibly?
8. Vegan Coleslaw - I liked it about as much as I like regular coleslaw, which is not much.
9. Ginger Carrot Soup - One rainy afternoon all I had left to cook with were carrots so I turned them into a big pot of soup. Joshy was napping when it was ready and by the time he woke up it was all gone. One day I will make it again.
10. Fiddlehead Ferns - Don't have these in Australia but I have been told they are fantastic so will have to get my hands on some.
11. Roasted Elephant Garlic - Yum.
12. Umeboshi - Nope.
13. Almond Butter Toast - My grandma used to make lemon butter does that count? No?
14. Aloe Vera - Belch. I mean, we always had a plant growing so Mum could break a bit off and slather us with it if we ever got a cut or sunburn but eating it? No thanks.
15. H and H Bagel NYC
16. Slow Roasted Butternut Squash
17. White truffle
18. Fruit wine made from something other than grapes
19. Freshly ground wasabi
20. Coconut Milk Ice Cream - Yes yes yes! I was going to write something about Coconut Bliss but am saving it for another night :)
21. Heirloom tomatoes - I've given up eating anything but. I would rather have no tomatoes than have the tasteless picture perfect grocery sort.
22. Orchard-fresh pressed apple cider
23. Organic California Mango - well, not Californian, but the ones from Queensland are pretty spectacular :)
24. Quinoa
25. Papaya Smoothie
26. Raw Scotch Bonnet or Habañero pepper
27. Goji Berry Tea
28. Fennel - not a big fan really.
29. Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies - Mmmm… cookies...
30. Radishes and Vegan Buttery Spread - Does radishes and olive oil count?
31. Starfruit
32. Oven fresh Sourdough bread - I tried to make my own sourdough starter for a while but it was in the middle of winter and I just couldn't get it to take.
33. Sangria made with premium fruit and juices
34. Sauerkraut - I should probably give it another go, I don't think my 11 year old taste buds were well equipped to deal with such strong flavours.
35. Acai Smoothie
36. Blue Foot Mushrooms - Mushrooms with feet? Cool.
37. Vegan Cupcake from Babycakes NYC - Hrm. Surely places other than NYC make vegan cupcakes.
38. Sweet Potatoes and Tempeh combo - Probably. I love tempeh and am not known for turning down sweet potato.
39. Falafel - There is a lady in Melbourne that used to sell us falafels in 1kg bags :)
40. Spelt Crust Pizza - Mmmmm…. pizza
41. Salt and Pepper Oyster Mushrooms - Seriously? What's with all the mushrooms?
42. Jicama Slaw
43. Pumpkin Edamame Ginger Dumplings
44. Hemp Milk - I've been told this is pretty good but can't convince myself to try it.
45. Rose Champagne
46. Fuyu (aka persimmons) - BLERG! Mum has a persimmon tree. She can never find enough people to give them to.
47. Raw Avocado-Coconut Soup - Interesting. Possibly sometime soon.
48. Tofu Pesto Sandwich
49. Apple-Lemon-Ginger-Cayenne fresh-pressed juice
50. Grilled Seitan - I don't understand what people like about this stuff. Give me tempeh any day.
51. Prickly pear
52. Fresh Pressed Almond Milk
53. Concord Grapes off the vine - Concord Grapes specifically, don't think so, but grapes off the vine, yes :)
54. Ramps - Aren't these alternatives to stairs? Can't imagine they taste very good.
55. Coconut Water fresh from a young coconut
56. Organic Arugula - I think this is what we call rocket in Aus, if so, that would be a yes.
57. Vidalia Onion
58. Sampler of organic produce from Diamond Organics - Are people paying to get on this list?
59. Honeycrisp Apple - Quite possibly, if not one of the ones in our mixed bag, then likely to at the apple festival on the weekend.
60. Poi
61. Vegan Campfire-toasted S’mores
62. Grape seed Oil
63. Farm fresh-picked Peach - Mmm… we had many peach trees on the farm. Mum used to make the most amazing peach jam with them. I just drooled on my keyboard.
64. Freshly-made pita bread with freshly-made hummus - Of course!
65. Chestnut Snack Packs - Um, I've roasted chestnuts...
66. Fresh Guava
67. Mint Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
68. Raw Mallomar from One Lucky Duck, NYC
69. Fried plantains
70. Mache
71. Golden Beets - So good :)
72. Barrel-Fresh Pickles - Must be another northern hemisphere thing.
73. Liquid Smoke - Am I missing something here?
74. Meyer Lemon
75. Veggie Paella
76. Vegan Lasagna
77. Kombucha
78. Homemade Soy Milk - Not yet, apparently you can get it over in Victoria so will try it when we go there :)
79. Lapsang souchong - Man, I thought this list would be quick but there are so many things that I need to google just to find out what they are :P
80. Lychee Bellini
81. Tempeh Bacon - Bah. Messing around with perfectly good tempeh should not be allowed.
82. Sprouted Grain Bread
83. Lemon Pepper Tempeh
84. Vanilla Bean
85. Watercress
86. Carrot you pulled out of the ground yourself - Growing up on an organic food farm means pulling up a lot of veggies yourself :)
87. Vegan In-Season Fruit Pie
88. Flowers - My grandparents always put flowers in salad, makes it so pretty :)
89. Corn Chowder
90. High Quality Vegan Raw Chocolate
91. Yellow fuzz-free Kiwi
92. White Flesh Grapefruit - You know, I think I have managed to avoid grapefruit my entire life. I'm quite proud :)
93. Harissa - Nearly burnt my nostrils out. I would do it again.
94. Coconut Oil
95. Jackfruit
96. Homemade Risotto - A winter staple in this house.
97. Spirulina
98. Seedless ‘Pixie’ Tangerine
99. Gourmet Sorbet
100. Fresh Plucked English Peas
This list has made me hungry! Time to go cook dinner, Joshy has requested pancakes and I'm no good at arguing with those pretty blue eyes of his.
